Former Shoreham-Wading River and Harvard Wrestler,
Steven Keith, Joins Providence Beat the Streets

Steven Keith, Shoreham-Wading River class of 2009, began working for Beat the Streets Providence as Managing Director at the start of August. Beat the Streets Providence uses co-educational after school wrestling programs as a hook to draw at-risk youth into a positive developmental environment. Students receive academic tutoring prior to every practice, and regularly connect with strong mentors. Participation in practice and competitions, as well as receiving gear, are connected to school attendance, and academic and community engagement, promoting development on the mat, in the classroom, and in life. In just 3 years, Beat the Streets Providence has expanded from 2 middle school programs, and 70 students to over 500 students in 10 middle schools, 5 high schools, and 2 Community Rec. Centers,. As Managing Director, Steven will add support to better serve current Beat the Streets communities, explore opportunities to expand, and enhance student development programs, and seek ways to serve a larger youth community.

Steven was a three-time Suffolk County Champion, and two-time NYS Champion. He was an NHSCA Junior National All-American, a FILA Cadet National Champion and Outstanding Wrestler, and named to the 2009 High School All-American Academic Team. Following high school, Steven wrestled for Harvard University. He was an All-American at the 2012 NCAA tournament and a four-time NCAA qualifier. Steven was a two-time First Team All-Ivy selection, and two-time NCAA Academic All-American. He was a FILA Junior National Champion, and University National All-American. After college Steven served as an assistant coach with Stanford University for the 2014-2015 season. While coaching he competed for the California Regional Training Center out of Stanford in a handful of Senior/University Freestyle events. He placed 3rd in the 2015 University Nationals at 65kg.
