Huntington’s Paul Widerman on the Move with Smart Bells

Paul Widerman is using the same creative and dedicated approach to his business world pursuits that brought him into the elite circle of United States amateur wrestlers.  The 1978 Huntington High School alumnus is on the move with an increasingly popular piece of fitness equipment and workout routine.

Widerman, the valedictorian of his 750-student strong Huntington class, won Suffolk County and New York State wrestling championships in 1977 and 1978 under coach Lou Giani’s tutelage.  He has studied mind/body modalities extensively and was a former captain of the Harvard wrestling team and an alternate on the U.S. Olympic freestyle wrestling team.  Widerman spent more than 15 years developing and perfecting the Smart Bell to develop this truly unique workout.

“Smart Bells is an excellent piece of equipment and the workout routine Paul has developed to go with it is one of the best I have ever seen,” Giani said.  “We are very proud of Paul here in Huntington.”  In addition to county and state crowns, Widerman grabbed three conference mat titles between 1976-78 and was named the program’s outstanding wrestler in 1977 and 1978.

Now a resident of Accord in Upstate New York, Widerman’s business interests recently earned a boost when Body Bar Systems of Boulder, Colorado announced that it had signed an agreement to provide programming, video production, worldwide distribution, and education and training for Smart Bells, the revolutionary new sculptural weights.   Smart Bells is a registered trademark of Thinkfit LLC.

“Smart Bells are one of a very few, truly new and unique innovations to hit the fitness industry in many years,” said Sherry Caitlin, President of Body Bar Systems and the IDEA 2004 Program Director of the Year.  “Smart Bells are patented sculptural weights designed to fit to the contours of your body and facilitate dynamic circular movement patterns to build strength, cardio endurance and flexibility.  With Smart Bells, we finally have the perfect piece of equipment to ‘train movement not muscles’ with weighted motion that works with the body, not against it, in a natural and functional way.”

Body Bar Systems plans to build on the success that Smart Bells has enjoyed at select fitness clubs.  A national launch of Smart Bells begins with promotion and training sessions at ECA in New York, March 11-13.  The training sessions will feature a team of nationally known athletes led by Lisa Wheeler, a Reebok University Master Trainer and program developer.  The initial sessions at ECA New York will coincide with the introduction of three brand-new Smart Bells fitness DVDs: Smart Bells Basics, Smart Bells Smart Strength, and Smart Bells Fusion.

“The industry is going to love, as I do, these revolutionary Smart Bells workouts,” Ms. Wheeler said. “Smart Bells incorporate strength training, endurance, and flexibility with movements from sports, athletic training, Pilates, yoga and dance.  They are great fun and leave you feeling energized and invigorated.”

Body Bar Systems, Inc. has been a key player in the fitness industry since 1987.  The company has been successful at creating a strong presence through its product line:  The original Body Bar, a weighted fitness bar, and the extensive Master Your Body TM video/DVD series of workout programs and club programs.  The Body Bar can be found in health and fitness clubs around the world and is recognized as one of the most versatile, functional training tools on the market today.
