At the Section XI, League 3 Tournament, Malik was 3-0 with 3 pins to win the league title. This included pins over 2 sectional finalists – Jeff Perez of Lindenhurst and Peter Magliocco of Northport.
Week 10 - Dan Gibson of Port Washington
The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending February 2, 2020, is 145lb junior, Dan Gibson of Port Washington.
At the Oyster Bay Duals, Dan was 5-0, including victories over two returning Sectional Champions - Michael Leandrou/Oyster Bay and Williy Krauss/Hampton Bays.
In addition, Gibson recorded his 128th career victory for the Vikings, setting a new school record.
Week 9 - Liam Wolf of Patchogue-Medford
The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 26th, 2020, is 160lb senior, Liam Wolf of Patchogue-Medford.
Wolf registered 4 falls for the Raiders as they won the Suffolk D1 Dual Meet Championships. His pin points were pivotal for Patchogue-Medford as 3 of their 4 victories were by seven points or less.
Week 8 - Gaven Bell of Cold Spring Harbor
The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 19th, 2020, is 160lb junior, Gaven Bell of Cold Spring Harbor.
Fresh off of a 3rd place finish at the Eastern States Classic, the returning NYS D2 4th place finisher, remained on fire, going 4-0 on the week, including a pin over 2019 Nassau D2 bronze medalist, Roarke Creedon/Locust Valley, a 5-3 decision over 2019 Nassau D1 4th/currently ranked 2nd, Jack McCusker/Manhasset and a 7-2 decision over 2x Suffolk D1 3rd/currently top-ranked Jack Spahn/Islip
Week 7 - Zach Redding of Eastport-South Manor
The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 12th, 2020, is 132lb senior, Zach Redding of Eastport-South Manor.
At the Eastern States Classic, Redding was 6-0 to win his second ESC crown. His penultimate finals victory was an 8-6 decision over the #4 ranked wrestler in the country, Ryan Jack of Danbury, CT. Ryan is a returning ESC champion/3x CT state champion, and had previously defeated Redding several times, including the 2019 NHSCAA Junior National finals.
Redding’s other victories included wins over; Amir Hodge/Long Beach, ranked 3rd Section VIII; 2019 Section I champion, James Sullivan/Clarkstown South; 2x Nassau county finalist/2019 champion, James Schneider/MacArthur; and 3x NYS D2 placer/2018 champion/current #1 ranked, Marek Bush/Central Valley.
Week 6 - Michael Giugliano of Miller Place
The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 5th, 2020, is 99 lb 8th grader, Michael Giugliano of Miller Place.
At the West Islip Duals, Michael went 4-0 including back-to-back wins over current Section VIII #2 ranked Thomas Wagner of Southside, and 2019 4th Section XI/#2 ranked Mikey Manta of Hauppauge.
Week 5 - of Connetquot
The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 29th, 2019, is 120 lb sophomore, Christian Paredes of Connetquot.
At the 57th annual Massapequa Holiday Tournament, Paredes was 3-0 to win the loaded 120 lb bracket. Seeded 5th, the rugged sophomore defeated 2019 Nassau 6th/ranked 3rd, Jafet Velasqez of Long Beach. In the semifinals, he won 1-0 over two-time Nassau County champ/2x NYS DI placer/2018 State runner-up, Chase Liardi of Massapequa. And in the finals, he triumphed 4-2 over Santos Ocasio of Monroe-Woodbury, 3rd section IX 2019/ranked 1st.
Week 4 - Josiah Encarnacion of Wantagh
The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 22nd, 2019, is 120 lb senior, Josiah Encarnacion, of Wantagh.
Competing at the annual David C. Bloom Memorial Duals, the 3x Nassau County Champion/2019 NYS DI runner-up, was 3-0 including a 3-2 tiebreaker decision over 2x RI State Champion/2019 New England Champion, Andrew Fallon.
This avenged a loss from the 2019 NHSCA National Tournament, and helped Wantagh defeat one of the top teams in Rhode Island.
Competing this weekend at the Annual David C. Bloom Memorial Duals, the 3x Nassau County Champion/2019 NYS DI runner-up was invaluable in leading the Warriors to a perfect 3-0 record, including team victories over the #1 (Bishop Hendricken; 47-25) and #3 (Cumberland; 36-33) teams in last season's Rhode Island State Championships...In the win over BH, Encarnacion avenged a loss from the 2019 NHSCA National tournament by earning a 3-2 decision in the tiebreaker over 2x RI State Champion/2019 New England titlist, Andrew Fallon...In the triumph against Cumberland, he secured bonus points, emerging with a 14-4 major decision over 2019 state runner-up, Colby Reilly...Encarnacion rounded out his performance on Saturday with a fall in 2:12 as part of Wantagh's 45-23 win over defending PSAL Champs, Grand Street Campus.
Week 3 - Jordan Titus of Center Moriches HS
The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 15th, 2019, is 120 lb junior, Jordan Titus, of Center Moriches.
This past weekend, the defending NYS D2 Champion, made history when he became the first New Yorker to ever win the prestigious Walsh Ironman Tournament in Ohio.
Seeded 1st in the 120-pound bracket, the current Flo #7 ranked wrestler in the nation compiled a 6-0 record, including victories in the semifinal and final rounds over opponents ranked 10th and 12th in the land...In addition, in the quarterfinals on Friday, he posted a 10-5 decision over the 2019 Florida State runner-up/2019 USAW 16U Fargo FS bronze medalist...Titus' title victory (4-2 in OT) came against 2x National Prep All-American/2x NHSCA National Champion/2019 USAW Fargo Junior Double All-American, #10 Cooper Flynn (McDonogh). The victory avenged two previous losses suffered by Titus against Flynn.
Week 2 -Steven Wilkinson of Connetquot HS
The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 8th, 2019, is 120 lb senior, Steven Wilkinson, of Connetquot. Steven went 4-0 to win the 120 lb. bracket at the Gray/Fitzgerald Holiday Tournament at Sayville. This included 2 pins and a finals win over 2X Suffolk D2 Champion/2019 NYS D2 4th place, Joe Sparacio of Bayport-Blue Point.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 1st, 2019, is 138 lb senior, Jack Marlow, of Northport. Jack went 3-0 to win the 138 lb. bracket at the Andrew Peers Memorial Tournament. This included 2 pins and a major decision over 2019 Section XI/Division 1 6th/ranked 3rd, Dakota Asuncion of Half Hollow Hills West.
